CORTLAND, N.Y. - The Oneonta men's track & field team concluded the two-day Cortland Classic on Saturday afternoon. The Red Dragons recorded multiple personal bests as they approach championship season.
On Friday, freshman Alex Darrigo (Guilderland, NY/Guilderland) took 15th in the 100-meter dash prelims at 11.12, while sophomore Narmer Johnson (Elmont, NY/Elmont) crossed 22nd at 11.24. The Red Dragons had three finishers in the top four of the 1,500-meter race. Fifth-year Jonthomas Bierman (Mamaroneck, NY/Mamaroneck) placed first at 4:03.25, while senior Gabe Burns (Riverhead, NY/Riverhead) ran a 4:06.09 for second place. Sophomore Chris Schimkus (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) crossed fourth at 4:10.14.
Junior Tariq Earl (Centereach, NY/Centereach) won the 110-meter hurdles at a personal best of 14.75.
In the hammer throw invite, sophomore Elijah Cruz (Pine Bush, NY/Pine Bush Central) recorded a personal best of 51.00 meters for sixth overall. Senior Marco Altieri (Staten Island, NY/Staten Island) threw a personal record of 50.09 meters to place seventh. In the hammer open, sophomore Justin Baldwin (Cato, NY/Cato-Meridian) took fifth at 45.03 meters.
Altieri won the javelin with a personal record of 48.68 meters, while sophomore Connor Vredenburgh (Bainbridge, NY/Bainbridge-Guilford) hit a personal record of 41.01 meters to place third. Junior Drew Obernesser (New City, NY/Clarkstown North) took fourth at 39.51 meters.
Senior Michael Carey (Washingtonville, NY/Washingtonville) took fifth in the pole vault at 3.70 meters, while freshman Loudon Krumbiegel (Riverhead, NY/Riverhead) cleared 3.55 meters for sixth.
Sophomore Isaiah Slater (Brooklyn, NY/John F. Kennedy) finished sixth in the long jump at 6.63 meters.
On Saturday, the Oneonta 4x100 relay of Alex Darrigo (Guilderland, NY/Guilderland), Cam Spears (Bronx, NY/Monroe Woodbury), Nick Darrigo (Albany, NY/Guilderland), and Josh Jerome (Guilderland, NY/Guilderland) ran an AARTFC qualifying time of 43.30.
Spears continued with a seventh-place finish in the 400-meter race at a personal best of 49.65. Jerome crossed 15th in the 200-meter dash at 22.62, and Johnson was 18th at 22.93.
Freshman Ayobami Adebayo (Long Island, NY/Longwood) won the high jump at 1.97 meters and took third in the triple with a personal record of 13.90 meters.
Senior Sawyer Eckberg (Maryland, NY/Laurens-Milford) threw 42.84 meters in the discus to place seventh, and Baldwin took eighth at 40.82 meters.
Oneonta next competes at the RPI Capital District Classic on Fri. Apr. 25.
