PANAMA CITY, FL - The Oneonta women's lacrosse team fell 19-5 to Vassar in their first game of the spring break trip to Florida on Wednesday morning. The Red Dragons fall to 0-4, while the Brewers move to 5-0.
Vassar scored two quick goals from Phoebe Florance and Tess Billings to take a 2-0 lead. Senior Mason Benvenuto (Lynbrook, NY/Lynbrook) scored off a pass from freshman Angelina Weinert (Levittown, NY/Division Avenue) to make it 2-1 before the Brewers scored three unanswered goals. Senior Cassidy Moore (Hampton Bays, NY/Hampton Bays) netted the final goal of the first quarter to cut the lead to 5-2.
Vassar shut out Oneonta 6-0 in the second quarter, with six different Brewers scoring to take an 11-2 halftime lead.
Vassar continued into the third quarter, with Emilia DiLerto scoring at 13:54 to take a ten-goal lead. Senior Ellie Downey (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon) scored at 9:05, and a goal from senior Lindsay Townes cut the lead to 12-4. Vassar used a 6-0 run that carried over into the fourth quarter to go ahead 18-4. Oneonta scored a final goal from Moore before Vassar's Catherine Peacock netted a last-second goal.
Moore finished with two goals and two draw controls. Townes, Benvenuto, and Downey each recorded a goal. Weinert finished with two assists.
Billings scored four goals with two assists, while DiLiberto had three goals.
Senior Julia Hawkins (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia) made nine saves in goal. Bree MacMullen had two saves.
