ONEONTA, N.Y. -- The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) announced their 2024 Division III National Academic Squad and Scholars of Distinction honorees. The Oneonta field hockey team had seven members qualify for the National Academic Squad, and three received Scholars of Distinction honors.

The three Red Dragons that garnered the Scholars of Distinction honors were sophomore Abigail Draper (Remsen, NY/Holland Patent), freshmen Marissa Stephan (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) and Nora Trimarchi (South Glens Falls, N.Y.). This is the second consecutive year Draper was an honoree.

The Scholars of Distinction acknowledges exceptional undergraduate student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.9 or higher through the fall semester, nominated by their NFHCA member coaches.

Along with Draper, Stephan, and Trimarchi, junior Gabby Alfinito (Mohegan Lake, N.Y./Lakeland), sophomores Kylie Hoffmann (Miller Place, N.Y./Miller Place), Alexandra Howell (Holtsville, N.Y./Sachem East), and Sarah Stadelmann (East Syracuse/East Syracuse Minoa) were named to the National Academic Squad. It is the second time Draper, Hoffmann, Howell, and Stadelmann were tabbed to the academic squad.

Sponsored by OPA Winning Teams, the NFHCA National Academic Squad program honors undergraduate student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher through the fall semester, nominated by their NFHCA member coaches.

The NFHCA honored more than 1,880 undergraduate student-athletes from more than 150 institutions on the 2024 Division III National Academic Squad and more than 550 student-athletes achieved 2024 Division III Scholars of Distinction recognition.

On the field, Oneonta finished the season 9-9 overall, 2-2 in conference play and advanced to the SUNYAC Tournament semifinals.
