ONEONTA, N.Y. - The Women's Scholar Team of the Year and All-Academic Teams for the 2024 NCAA Division III Cross Country season were announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The Oneonta women's cross country team was named an all-academic team for the 16th time in program history. Additionally, senior Sabrinna Mena (Holtsville, NY/Sachem East) and sophomore Gia Engel (Syosset, NY/Syosset) were named all-academic athletes.
In order to qualify for All-Academic distinction, teams must have a cumulative GPA of 3.1 on a 4.0 scale, including the most recent grading period, among other qualifiers. The Red Dragons recorded a cumulative GPA of 3.62.Â
MIT was named the 2024 NCAA Division III Women's Cross Country Scholar Team of the Year. The Cougars, who maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.69, won the team title at the 2024 NCAA DIII Cross Country Championships in Terre Haute, Indiana. This is the first time in program history that MIT has been named the Women's Cross Country Scholar Team of the Year.
Mena, a dietetics major, was the SUNY and SUNYAC Women's Scholar Athlete of the Year and the SUNYAC Championship runner-up. Engel is studying psychology and picked up All-SUNYAC Second Team honors.
In order to qualify for All-Academic distinction, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30 on a 4.0 scale and finish in the top 25 percent of their respective regional championship meet.
