Red Dragons Place Second at SUNYAC Championships

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - The Oneonta women's cross country team placed second out of two teams at Saturday's SUNYAC Championships held at the SUNY Plattsburgh Rugar Woods Cross Country Course. Cortland was the team champion for the second year in a row with 49 points, while Oneonta was the runner-up with 79.

Cortland's Melissa Innocent was the 6k individual champion at 21:40.8.

Sophomore Natalia Sweat (Newburgh, NY/Newburgh) was Oneonta's top finisher at tenth overall with a personal best time of 22:47.5 to grab All-SUNYAC Second Team honors. Junior Anya Sloth (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta Senior) ran a 22:58.7 for 13th place, and junior Gia Engel (Syosset, NY/Syosset) took 15th at 23:04.0 to both be named All-SUNYAC Third Team.

Freshman Jill Cinquina (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Walter Panas) crossed at 18th overall at 23:40.4, while sophomore Anna Kern (Central Valley, NY/Monroe-Woodbury) took 23rd at 24:18.7. Junior Olivia Komacek (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) posted a 25:07.1 to finish 35th, and sophomore Sophia Allen (Scotia, NY/Scotia Glenville) ran a personal best of 25:17.3 to place 36th. Freshman Summer Sayaves (Levittown, NY/General Douglas MacArthur) ran a personal record of 25:28.6 for 38th, and freshman Alex Friedel (Irondequoit, NY/Irondequoit) had a personal best time of 25:37.1 to place 41st.

Senior Kelya Mendoza took 42nd at a personal best of 25:37.3, while senior Eva Woodworth (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) grabbed 43rd at 25:38.1.

Oneonta next competes at the NCAA Niagara Regional Championships held in Rochester on Saturday, November 15.
