Red Dragons Place Second at Oneonta Airfield Invitational

ONEONTA, N.Y. - The Oneonta women's cross country team placed second out of seven teams to open the season at the Oneonta Airfield Invitational on Friday evening. The Red Dragons scored 48 points in the 4.5k course held at Fortin Park, while Cortland won the team title with 19 points.

Cortland took the top-three spots, with graduate student Alexa Doe claiming first overall at 17:27.1. Junior Natalia Sweat (Newburgh, NY/Newburgh) placed sixth at 17:57.7, while sophomore Jill Cinquina (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Walter Panas) crossed seventh at 18:00.7. Senior Anya Sloth (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta Senior) rounded out the top ten by finishing tenth overall at 18:14.3.

Oneonta had four of the following five finishers, with junior Anna Kern (Central Valley, NY/Monroe-Woodbury) at 12th (18:19.6), freshman Paige Baker (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) taking 13th (18:20.4), sophomore Summer Sayaves (Levittown, NY/General Douglas MacArthur) crossing 14th (18:25.4), and freshman Alannah McCarthy (Slingerlands, NY/Clayton A. Bouton) placing 15th (18:29.4).

Also earning top-25 finishes were sophomore Alex Friedel (Irondequoit, NY/Irondequoit) at 19:02.8, freshman Sophia Davis (Oneida, NY/Oneida) at 19:14.5, and senior Olivia Komacek (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) at 19:19.9.

Oneonta next competes at the Hamilton Short Course Invitational on September 12.
