ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Oneonta men's cross country team competed in the first 8k race of the season, taking 12th out of 20 teams at the Rochester Yellowjacket Invitational. The Red Dragons scored 293 points, while Colgate won the meet with 32 points. St. Bonaventure's Aiden Scattergood came in first at 25:26.2.
Fifth-year Jonthomas Bierman (Mamaroneck, NY/Mamaroneck) was the top Red Dragon at 24th overall with a 26:57.7. Senior Gabe Burns (Riverhead, NY/Riverhead) crossed 49th overall at 27:36.4, while senior John Balk, Jr. (Suffern, NY/Suffern) took 52nd at 27:39.0. Sophomore Chris Schimkus (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) placed 85th (28:19.9), and sophomore Noah Pickard (Batavia, NY/Batavia) took 169th (29:46.2).
Freshman Brady McGowan (Seaford, NY/Seaford) finished at 29:48.4 for 170th, while sophomore Lucas Berg (Nyack, NY/Nyack) crossed at 29:51.2 for 171st place.
Oneonta next competes at the Lehigh Paul Short Invite on Sat. Oct. 5.
