CORTLAND, N.Y. - The Oneonta men's track & field team wrapped up action at the Cortland Red Dragon Open on Sunday afternoon.
Oneonta opened the track events with the 4x100 relay. Josh Jerome (Guilderland, NY/Guilderland), Nick Darrigo (Albany, NY/Guilderland), Alec Weiss (Selden, NY/Newfield), and Chris Ganley (Pine Bush, NY/Pine Bush) ran an AARTFC qualifying time of 43.47 to take fourth out of eight teams.
Senior Shane Marchese (Washingtonville, NY/Washingtonville) placed seventh in the 1,500-meter at 4:24.01, and senior Joseph Ayala (New Paltz, NY/New Paltz) was ninth at 4:28.76.
Senior Alex Mavros (Hopewell Junction, NY/Arlington) took third in the 110-hurdles at 15.89, and senior Aidan Kelly (Farmingdale, NY/Farmingdale) ran a 16.87 to finish sixth overall. Mavros continued with a sixth-place finish in the 400 hurdles (59.56).
Ganley won the 100-meter race at 10.84 and was fifth in the 200-meter (22.98). Junior Gabe Burns (Riverhead, NY/Riverhead) took first in the 800-meter at 1:56.07.
In the field events, senior Cliff Biehl won the javelin after recording a throw of 52.85 meters. Senior Marco Alteri placed fifth at 40.95 meters, and sophomore Drew Obernesser (New City, NY/Clarkstown North) took sixth (39.39 meters).
Senior Vincent Zheng (Nanuet, NY/Nanuet) placed second in the shot put (13.90 meters) and discus (42.22 meters). Alteri went on to finish fourth in the hammer throw (47.34 meters).
Senior Michael Carey (Washingtonville, NY/Washingtonville) cleared 3.80 meters in the pole vault to finish third overall.
Oneonta next competes at the RPI Friday Night Under the Lights meet on Fri. Apr. 12.
