ONEONTA, N.Y. -Â The Oneonta women's lacrosse team looks to make a post-season run this Saturday when they open the SUNYAC Tournament First Round at New Paltz at 11 a.m. The Red Dragons (5-11, 3-6 SUNYAC) come into the playoffs as the sixth seed, while the Hawks (13-3, 6-3) host as the third seed.Â
Under first-year head coach Mackenzie King, Oneonta makes its tenth-straight SUNYAC Tournament. Junior Cassidy Moore (Hampton Bays, NY/Hampton Bays) paces the Red Dragons' offense with 64 points (43 goals, 21 assists), which ranks tenth in the conference. She also leads the team behind 76 draw controls. Senior Marissa Evans (Jamesville, NY/LaFayette) tallied 55 points (38 goals, 17 assists), 21 caused turnovers, and 53 draw controls, while senior Lauren Mancini (Miller Place, NY/Miller Place) added 51 points (40 goals, 11 assists). Senior Margaret Byrne (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington) impacted both sides of the field with 26 goals and 14 caused turnovers.Â
Senior Courtney Gallagher (Montrose, NY/Hendrick Hudson) is Oneonta's primary goalkeeper, starting 12 games this season. She recorded 118 saves (.431 percent) with a 14.21 goals-against average.Â
The Red Dragons are coming off a 13-9 loss to the Hawks on Wednesday. After heading into halftime tied 4-4, New Paltz scored five straight goals in the third quarter to hold on for the eventual victory.Â
The Hawks feature a variety of offensive weapons, with Kaitlyn Shaw leading the SUNYAC with 87 points (63 goals, 24 assists) and Mia Baldinger second with 79 points (23 goals, 56 assists). Morgan Atwater and twin sister Lexi Atwater accounted for 130 combined points and won 57 and 54 draw controls, respectively.Â
On defense, Morgan Woolley is eighth in the nation with 52 caused turnovers.Â
