CORTLAND, N.Y. -Â The Oneonta men's track & field team wrapped up the second day of the Cortland Classic on Saturday afternoon. There was no team scoring, but the Red Dragons grabbed some individual solid performances.Â
The track events opened with the 4x100 relay, and Eric Nieves (Thornwood, NY/Westlake), Josh Jerome (Guilderland, NY/Guilderland), Nick Darrigo (Albany, NY/Guilderland), and Chris Ganley (Pine Bush, NY/Pine Bush) posted an AARTFC qualifying time of 42.79 to place second overall.
Freshman Lucas Berg (Nyack, NY/Nyack) ran a personal record of 2:01.86 to finish 17th in the 800-meter, and junior Matt Hayden (Long Valley, NJ) was 24th with a 2:04.17. In the 400-meter race, freshman Mark Cappellino took 21st at 54.66.
Ganley finished second in the 100-meter dash finals at 10.99. Freshman Ethan Christophersen (Bayport/Bayport Blue Pont High School) ran a 59.46 in the 400-meter hurdles to place sixth overall.Â
In the 200-meter race, Ganley was 12th (23.28), and Weiss took 14th (23.39).Â
Senior Vincent Zheng (Nanuet, NY/Nanuet) threw 14.03 meters in the shot put to place seventh, and sophomore Sawyer Eckberg (Maryland, NY/Laurens-Milford) was 12th at 12.59 meters. Eckberg contiued with a second-place performance in the discus with a personal best and AARTFC qualifying mark of 46.23 meters, Â
Jerome cleared 12.48 meters in the triple jump to finish ninth overall.
Oneonta continues the season at the RPI Upstate Classic on Apr. 26.Â
