BROCKPORT, N.Y. -Â The Brockport Golden Eagles closed the game on a 4-0 run to secure a 10-8 win over the Oneonta women's lacrosse team on Saturday afternoon. The Red Dragons move to 5-10 overall and 3-5 in the SUNYAC, while the Golden Eagles go to 8-6 and 5-3 in the conference.Â
Brockport struck first after five scoreless minutes when Alayan Foos scored at 9:28. Oneonta tied six minutes later with senior Marissa Evans (Jamesville, NY/LaFayette) scoring off an Ellie Downey (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon) assist at 3:54. The Red Dragons took the lead at 1:58 when Mason Benvenuto (Lynbrook, NY/Lynbrook) found the back of the net to push Oneonta up 2-1.Â
Following a turnover from Gianna Aliani (Bay Shore, NY/) to start the second quarter, Oneonta pushed the lead to 3-1 when senior Lauren Mancini (Miller Place, NY/Miller Place) scored an unassisted goal at 13:09. Brockport responded at 8:49 with a goal from Cassidy Burnash, but goals from Elizabeth Doherty (Miller Place, NY/Miller Place) and Evans gave Oneonta a 5-2 lead at the break.Â
Junior Cassidy Moore (Hampton Bays, NY/Hampton Bays) and senior Magaret Byrne netted goals to open the third quarter to give the Red Dragons a 7-2 lead. Brockport answered with four goals to end the quarter only down one heading into the fourth.Â
Bryne scored at 13:42 in the fourth to put Oneotna up 8-6, but the Golden Eagles tacked on four straight goals to secure the lead. Oneonta was held scoreless throughout the remainder of the fourth as Brockport secured the win.
Evans scored two goals with one assist, while Moore had a goal and an assist. Byrne scored two goals.Â
Foos led Brockport with three goals, while Cassidy Burnash had two goals and four assists.Â
Oneonta wraps up the regular season on Wed. Apr. 24 at New Platz at 4 p.m.Â
