ONEONTA, N.Y. -Â Senior Lauren Mancini (Miller Place, NY/Miller Place) scored her 100th career goal as the Oneonta women's lacrosse team downed Hartwick 19-16 in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon. The Red Dragons move to 3-5 overall, while the Hawks fall to 4-4.Â
Oneonta jumped out to a 3-0 run, with senior Marissa Evans (Jamesville, NY/LaFayette) netting the opening goal one minute in off an assist from junior Ellie Downey (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon). Mancini scored her 100th goal on a free-position attempt at 12:40, and junior Elizabeth Doherty (Miller Place, NY/Miller Place) found the back at the net soon after to make it 3-0.Â
The Hawks responded with scores from Kristen Vaccarelli and Katrina Martin to cut the lead to 3-2 before Downet scored at 8:11. The goals went back-and-forth, with Doherty scoring the final goal of the half to giving Oneonta a 7-5 advantage.
The Hawks outscored the Red Dragons 3-1 in the second quarter, with Kara Anderson scoring at 12:47. Elle Stringer followed with a goal at 6:12 to tie 7-7, but junior Cassidy Moore (Hampton Bays, NY/Hampton Bays) chipped a shot in at 4:13 to retake the lead. Hartwick's Claudia Pollaro tied the game 8-8 with 3:25 left in the half.
After Mancini scored the second half's first goal, Hartwick scored four straight goals to take a 12-9 lead. Moore and Evans cut the lead to one before Pollaro scored to put the Hawks ahead 13-11 at 6:25.Â
Hartwick held a narrow lead until Mancini and Evans scored two goals in the final two minutes of the third quarter to tie 13-13 heading into the fourth.Â
Evans gave Oneonta the lead at 12:01 in the fourth, and senior Courtney Gallagher (Montrose, NY/Hendrick Hudson) stopped a Hawks' shot to hold the Red Dragons' lead. Hartwick tied again at 7:31, but three unanswered goals from Evans, Moore, and senior Margaret Byrne (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington) pushed Oneonta up 18-15 with 1:48 remaining. Hartwick scored again, but a final Evan's goal sealed the victory.Â
Evans led Oneonta with nine points (seven goals, two assists), four ground balls, and four draw controls. Moore added three goals, three assists, and ten draw controls. Mancini and Byrne both recorded hat tricks.Â
Marten led Hartwick with seven points (three goals, four assists), and Vaccarelli scored five goals with ten draw controls.Â
Junior Julia Hawkins (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia) finished with four saves, while Gallagher had three. Brooke Lynett made ten saves for the Hawks, while Alexa Patrakis had five stops.Â
Oneonta next travels to face Geneseo in SUNYAC play on Fri. Apr. 5 at 1 p.m.Â
