ONEONTA, N.Y. -Â Junior Cassidy Moore (Hampton Bays, NY/Hampton Bays) poured in eight goals as the Oneonta women's lacrosse team defeated Plattsburgh 19-6 on Wednesday afternoon. The Red Dragons improve to 5-9 overall and 3-3 in the SUNYAC, while the Cardinals fall to 3-10 and 2-5 in the conference. Additionally, senior Marissa Evans (Jamesville, NY/LaFayette) recorded her 100th career points.
After Oneonta fell behind 3-2 in the first quarter, Evans scored a 7:11 to tie 3-3. Moore followed up with three straight goals to end the first quarter and put the Red Dragons ahead 6-3.
Freshman Gianna Aliani (Bay Shore, NY/) caused a turnover to start the second, and the ball found its way to Moore for her fourth goal. Plattsburgh's Erica Dickinson found the back of the net at 10:12 to cut the lead to 7-4. Moore kept at the momentum and scored at 8:49 to push the lead to 8-4. The Red Dragons closed the half on a 5-0 run with two goals from Moore and senior Margaret Byrne (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington) and another by junior Ellie Downey (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon) to go up 13-5.Â
Senior Lauren Mancini (Miller Place, NY/Miller Place) netted the opening goal of the third quarter before Mddy Garcia cut the Oneonta lead to 14-6. The Red Dragons built a ten-goal lead following a Byrne goal at 5:33.Â
Oneonta shut out the Cardinals 3-0 in the fourth. Mancini recorded a hat trick at 11:57, and senior Marissa Evans (Jamesville, NY/LaFayette) scored two consecutive goals to cap off the game.Â
Moore led the game with 11 points (eight goals, three assists) and won three draw controls. Evans added four goals, two assists, three caused turnovers, and four draw controls. Mancini and Byrne added three goals each.Â
Taya Balfour and Cynthia Barnosky had two goals each for Plattsburgh.Â
Senior Courtney Gallagher (Montrose, NY/Hendrick Hudson) made 13 saves in goal, while Lilla Nease made 12 stops.Â
Oneonta will travel to face Brockport on Sat. Apr. 20 at 1 p.m.
