SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -Â The Oneonta women's lacrosse team suffered a 21-6 non-conference loss to Skidmore on Sunday afternoon. The Red Dragons fall to 4-9 overall, while the Thoroughbreds move to 6-7.Â
Skidmore started the first quarter on a 7-0 run, with six different Thoroughbreds finding the back of the net. Oneonta got on the board when junior Elizabeth Doherty (Miller Place, NY/Miller Place) scored an unassisted goal at 1:14 to make it 7-1. Skidmore's Jillian Lockwood netted a goal with 48 seconds left to take a seven-goal lead.Â
Skidmore continued to roll in the second quarter and outscored Oneonta 5-1. Junior Cassidy Moore (Hampton Bays, NY/Hampton Bays) made it 10-2, but the Thoroughbred followed with three unanswered goals to lead 13-2 at the break.
Emma Caulfield and Lily Hudner scored goals to extend Skidmore's lead to 15-2 before senior Lauren Mancini (Miller Place, NY/Miller Place) scored at 6:46. Back-to-back goals by Doherty to end the third cut the advantage to 16-5. Skidmore outscored Oneonta 5-1 in the fourth, as senior Margaret Byrne (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington) netted the game's final goal.Â
Doherty finished with three goals and an assist, while Moore had one goal, one assist, four draw controls, and two ground balls.Â
Skidmore had 12 different goal scorers, with Maddy Marr, Lily Hudner, and Allison Brewers each recording a hat trick.Â
Oneonta returns to SUNYAC play on Wed. Apr. 17 for their Morgan's Message game against Plattsburgh at 4 p.m.
