ONEONTA, N.Y. -Â The Oneonta women's lacrosse team fell 23-5 to Cortland on Wednesday afternoon. Cortland scored 11 goals in the first quarter, moving to 8-4 overall and 5-0 in the SUNYAC, while Oneonta falls to 3-8 and 1-3 in the conference.
Cortland's Toni Cashman scored four goals in the first quarter to help the team jump to a 10-0 lead. Oneonta got on the board at 4:27 when junior Elizabeth Doherty (Miller Place, NY/Miller Place) picked up junior Mason Benvenuto (Lynbrook, NY/Lynbrook) for the score. Junior Cassidy Moore (Hampton Bays, NY/Hampton Bays) added a second goal with 19 seconds left in the quarter to make it 11-2.Â
Cortland netted three unanswered goals before senior Marissa Evans (Jamesville, NY/LaFayette) found the back of the net at 6:48 in the second quarter. The visitors shut out Oneonta 5-0 in the third quarter, and Moore scored twice more in the fourth.Â
Cashman led Cortland with seven goals and an assist, while Rachel Janis dished out five assists. Amy Hoeffner scored five goals and won 14 draw controls.Â
Moore finished with three goals, while Evans and Benvenuto had one each.Â
Oneonta next plays Fredonia on Sat. Apr. 13 at noon.
