POTSDAM, N.Y. -Â The Golden Knights scored ten goals in the first quarter as the Oneonta women's lacrosse team fell 19-9 to Clarkson on Saturday afternoon. Two Red Dragons tallied hat tricks as Oneonta falls to 0-3, while Clarkson moves to 3-0.Â
Clarkson opened with two straight goals from Hailey Millington and another by Gabby Cranfield. Senior Lauren Mancini (Miller Place, NY/Miller Place) scored on a free position at 11:50 to get Oneonta on the board. Junior Ellie Downey (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon) scored 41 seconds later off an assist from junior Elizabeth Doherty (Miller Place, NY/Miller Place) to make it 3-2. Oneonta tied 3-3 when senior Margaret Byrne (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington) scored at 9:41.Â
Clarkson rattled off seven unanswered goals to end the quarter to lead 10-3 heading into the second.Â
The Red Dragons fell behind 13-3 after a pair of goals from Millington. Oneonta broke the scoring drought with a goal from Mancini at 4:07. Senior Marissa Evans (Jamesville, NY/LaFayette) scored before halftime to make it 14-5 at the break.Â
Oneonta outscored Clarkson 3-1 in the third quarter with two more goals from Evans and another by Byrne to make it 15-8.Â
The Golden Knights prevented any comeback and scored three consecutive goals to start the fourth. Mancini netted the hat trick by scoring her third goal at 8:53.Â
Mancini and Evans both finished with three goals, while Byrne scored two. Downey added a goal. Evans won three draw controls, caused two turnovers, and had three groundballs.Â
Millington tallied seven goals, while Madelyn Barnum scored five goals. Grace Graney recorded a hat trick.Â
Courtney Gallagher (Montrose, NY/Hendrick Hudson) made six saves in goal, while Clarkson's Jennaca McGill made four saves.
Oneonta next travels to face St. Joseph's (LI) on Wed. Mar. 13 at 1 p.m.
