PATCHOGUE, N.Y. -Â Head Oneonta women's lacrosse coach Mackenzie King picked up her first collegiate win as a head coach as the Red Dragons defeated St. Joseph's 16-6 on Wednesday afternoon. Junior Cassidy Moore (Hampton Bays, NY/Hampton Bays) led the Red Dragons (1-3) with five goals.Â
After winning the open draw control, Moore found the back of the net 47 seconds in to take a 1-0 lead. The Golden Eagles (0-3) added two straight goals from Kaitlyn Ippolito to go up 2-1 at 10:57.Â
Following a card on St. Joseph's, senior Margaret Byrne (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington) scored a woman-up goal at 10:16. Oneonta retook the lead at 8:52 when senior Marissa Evans (Jamesville, NY/LaFayette) scored on a Lauren Mancini (Miller Place, NY/Miller Place) assist. The Golden Eagles tied again, but a Moore goal with four seconds left in the quarter made it 4-3.Â
Oneonta shut out St. Joseph's in the second quarter, with junior Ellie Downey (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon) scoring the lone goal to make it 5-3.Â
The Red Dragons outscored the Golden Eagles 11-3 in the second half. Byrne and Mancini scored to open the third quarter, pushing the lead to 7-3. Moore scored at 4:23; two consecutive Mancini goals made it 10-5. Senior Paige Wilkinson (Cornwall, NY/Cornwall Central) capped off the third with a goal at 1:14.Â
Oneonta cruised to a 5-0 fourth quarter with two more goals from Moore.Â
Moore led the team with five goals and one assist. She won nine draw controls and caused two turnovers. Mancini added four goals and two assists, while Bryne had three goals. Sophomore Lindsay Townes dished out three assists.Â
Ippolito had two goals and an assist, and Emly O'Mara had two goals and an assist.Â
Senior Courtney Gallagher (Montrose, NY/Hendrick Hudson) made 11 saves in goal. St. Joseph's Maggie Harding had 14 saves.
Oneonta next plays at Utica on Thur. Mar. 21 at 4 p.m.
