POTSDAM, N.Y. -Â Senior Lauren Mancini (Miller Place, NY/Miller Place) led the Oneonta women's lacrosse team with seven goals as the Red Dragons (2-4, 1-0 SUNYAC) defeated Potsdam (3-3, 0-2 SUNYAC) 22-14 on Tuesday afternoon. The Red Dragons outscored the Bears 12-4 in the second half.Â
Oneonta took a 2-0 lead with opening goals by junior Elli Downey and senior Marissa Evans (Jamesville, NY/LaFayette). Potsdam answered when Lindsey LaDue found the back of the net at 10:46. Mancini scored thirty seconds later to make it 3-1. Potsdam tied 3-3 and scored three straight goals to end the first quarter to hold a 6-4 at the end of the first quarter.Â
Junior Elizabeth Doherty (Miller Place, NY/Miller Place) scored to start the second quarter, and sophomore Lindsay tied 6-6 following a woman-up goal at 12:19.
Potsdam went on a 4-0 run with two goals from Tessa Pierce and another by LaDue. Now down 10-6, Evans caused a turnover after the Bears won the draw control. Cassidy Moore (Hampton Bays, NY/Hampton Bays) passed to Mancini to make it 10-7 at 6:40. The Red Dragons scored the following three goals to tie at halftime with scores from Mancini, Doherty, and Evans.Â
Moore netted the opening goal of the second half to retake the lead. The teams traded leads until Oneonta used a 4-0 span to go up 16-12. Potsdam scored before the end of the third to make it a three-goal game.Â
Oneonta outscored Potsdam 6-1 in the fourth quarter with two more goals from Mancini and two by senior Margaret Byrne (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington).Â
Mancini finished with nine points (seven goals, two assists) and had two ground balls with two caused turnovers. Evans added four goals, five ground balls, five draw controls, and five caused turnovers. Townes scored three goals with an assist, while Moore had nine points (two goals, four assists) and ten draw controls. Doherty, Byrne, and Downey each had two goals.Â
LaDue scored seven points (five goals, two assists), while Anita Reitano scored three.Â
Julia Hawkins (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia) made eight saves in goal, while Potsdam's Allyson Bruns made eight.Â
Oneonta next plays at Oswego on Sat. Mar. 30 at noon.Â
