Red Dragons Outdoor Track & Field Opens Season at Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The Oneonta men's outdoor track & field started the season with a spring break trip to Myrtle Beach for the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational from Thursday to Saturday. 

In the 100-meter dash, senior Chris Ganley (Pine Bush, NY/Pine Bush) ran a 10.92 to place 11th overall, while sophomore Josh Jerome (Guilderland, NY/Guilderland) ran an 11.31 for 43rd place. Senior Alex Mavros (Hopewell Junction, NY/Arlington) took 14th in the 110-hurdles at 16.39. 

Ganley was also the top Red Dragon in the 200-meter race, finishing at 22.56 for 37th overall. Senior Alec Weiss (Selden, NY/Newfield) finished 31st in the 400-meter race at 54.57. Junior Joseph Ciardi (Accord, NY/) ran a personal best of 55.14 to take 33rd, and freshman Mark Cappellino ran a season-best of 56.56 for 46th. 

Mavros went on to run a 1:00.78 in the 400 hurdles to place 16th. 

Senior Alex Chamak (New City, NY/Clarkstown North) crossed 13th in the mile (4:54.40), and junior Andrew Sorrell (Hyde Park, NY/Franklin D. Roosevelt) was 23rd (5:03.78). Senior Shane Marchese (Washingtonville, NY/Washingtonville) took 21st in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at 11:17.52. 

In the 5,000-meter, junior Gabe Burns (Riverhead, NY/Riverhead) won with a time of 15:18.46. Senior Jonthomas Bierman (Mamaroneck, NY/Mamaroneck) took third (15:37.76), and senior John Balk, Jr. (Suffern, NY/Suffern) ran a personal best of 15:39.09 to take place fourth. 

Sophomore Sawyer Eckberg (Maryland, NY/Laurens-Milford) was 15th in the discus at 40.29 meters, and freshman Justin Baldwin (Cato, NY/Cato-Meridian) was 37th at 32.52 meters. 

Senior Marco Alteri threw 45.85 meters in the hammer throw to finish 11th overall, and Eckberg recorded a personal record of 45.64 meters to place 12th. 

Senior Cliff Biehl placed ninth in the javelin (50.93 meters), while freshman Drew Obernesser (New City, NY/Clarkstown North) hit a personal best of 44.09 meters to place 16th. 

In the shot put, Eckberg hit 11.89 meters for 29th overall. 

Biehl took 22nd in the long jump at 6.29 meters. Jerome placed seventh in the triple jump with a personal best of 13.53 meters. Freshman Thomas Pinkowski jumped 12.26 meters for 15th overall. 

Oneonta continues the season at the Hamilton Outdoor Invitational on Sat. Mar. 30 at 11 a.m.
