MORRISVILLE, N.Y. - The Oneonta women's volleyball fell 3-0 to Morrisville on Friday evening. The Mustangs won 25-22, 25-20, and 25-21 to move to 13-6 overall and 5-0 in the SUNYAC. Oneonta falls to 7-14 and 0-4 in the conference.
Freshman McKenna Law (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) led Oneonta with eight kills. Junior Mikayla Kendrick (Nassau, NY/Columbia High School/East Greenbush) added five kills and a block, while sophomores Katie Spano (Dryden, NY/Dryden) and Emma Morretta (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac) each tallied five kills. Junior Anna Moller (Long Beach, NY/Long Beach Senior High School) picked up 17 digs, and freshman Addison Tanton (/) made 13 assists.
Emily Huppee led Morrisville with 19 kills, while Kayci Olson tacked on eight kills. Cassandra Bellmore dished out 21 assists, and Kayla Sheasby recorded 28 digs.
Morrisville took a 7-4 lead in the first, but Oneonta cut the lead to one following a block from juniors Colleen McCabe (Rockville Centre, NY/Oceanside) and Spano. Samantha Mehler knocked in a kill before the Red Dragons used a 3-0 run to go ahead 10-9. The Mustangs used a 7-1 span with four Huppee kills to take a 16-11 lead.
Oneonta eventually chipped back in with a 5-0 run with kills from McCabe and Kendrick and an ace by Tanton to tie 19-19. The Red Dragons took a 21-20 lead following a McCabe kill, but the Mustangs finished the set on a 5-1 run.
Morrisville led the entire second set and went ahead 11-5 before Law sent in a kill. Oneonta pulled within four following a Spano kill, but a final bad set put Morrisville up 2-0.  Â
The Mustangs jumped to a 9-2 lead in the third set. Kills from Law and Morretta cut the lead to five. After a kill from Morrisville's Huppee made it 10-4, Oneonta went on a 4-0 run with a Spano kill and a block from junior Sabrina Squicciarini (Manorville, NY/St. Anthony's). Oneonta kept within striking distance and used another 4-0 span to cut the lead to 18-17. The Mustangs pulled away again until Spano and Kendrick blocked an attack to make it 22-21. Morrisville then finished the set on a 3-0 run to secure the win.
Oneonta next plays at Cortland on Sat. Oct. 19 at 1 p.m.
