NEW PALTZ, N.Y. -- Sophomore
Maura Leib (East Syracuse, N.Y./East Syracuse Minoa) recorded 17 saves in the SUNY Oneonta field hockey's contest against St. Lawrence Saturday afternoon, however it was the Saints that came away with the game, 3-2. Senior
Carly O'Connor (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Walter Panas) and graduate student
Morgan Fleming (Harpursville, N.Y./Harpursville) found the back of the cage in the contest as the Red Dragons moved to 1-1 on the season.
After St. Lawrence's Caroline Hamilton scored the first goal of the match at 2:57, O'Connor tied it at one less than a minute later off a penalty corner. Senior
Erin Clark (Somers, N.Y./Somers) received the ball up top and passed it on her left to senior
Michaela Maniscalco (Northport, N.Y./Northport). Maniscalco pushed the ball to Fleming for the shot, but she was stopped by the Saints goalie Cara Vredenburg. That set up O'Connor to get the rebound and hit the lower right of the cage.
Lily Gubbins regained St. Lawrence's lead before the end of the first and Maggie Spire made it a two-goal lead a minute into the second period. Oneonta had a couple chances towards the end of the half, but St. Lawrence stopped them to hold on to the 3-1 lead at half.
The Red Dragons cut the deficit to one off a penalty corner halfway through the third. Clark got the ball at the top of the circle, took a step in and shot. The shot was saved by the Vredenburg and landed in front of the cage where a scrum for the ball took place. A few seconds after a fight for the ball, it ended up on Fleming's stick who got it past the crowded cage for the goal.

Oneonta put together a string of penalty corners in an effort to tie the game as the clock was ticking down in the fourth. Within 40 seconds the Red Dragons had three corners that created three shots on the cage, however one shot was defensively saved and the other two were stopped by Vredenburg, allowing the Saints to hold on to the win. Â
Along with Leib's 17 saves, freshmen
Abigail Draper () recorded three defensive saves and
Sarah Stadelmann () had one. Vredenburg had eight saves for St. Lawrence.Â

The Saints outshot the Red Dragons 28-17 and had a 10-9 edge in penalty corners.Â
