Men's Tennis Sweeps Oswego

OSWEGO, N.Y. -- The SUNY Oneonta men's tennis team picked up another win without dropping a match, defeating Oswego State on the road, 9-0, Sunday afternoon. This is the second straight shut out victory for the Red Dragons as they improved to 6-10 on the season while the Lakers fell to 5-4 overall. 

Senior August LePique (New York, NY/Columbia) and freshman William Schmid (Yonkers/Salesian HS) led the doubles matches with an 8-2 victory on the No. 2 court over Anthony Marcano and Ethan Bannochie. Junior Joshua Mann (East Greenbush/Columbia) and Nathaniel Inzerrilo (Center Moriches/Center Moriches) defeated Zachary Demott and Liam Reira on the No. 3 court, 8-4, and seniors Jacob Dornsife (Wilmington, DE/Mt. Pleasant) and Mason Spottek (Binghamton/Susquehanna Valley) rounded out the doubles sweep with an 8-5 win over Austin Davis and Anthony Salerno on the No. 1 court.  

Davis and Salerno suffered another loss to Spottek and Dornsife in singles play. Spottek defeated Davis on the No. 2 court in straight 6-2 sets, and Dornsife beat Salerno with one bagel set on the No. 3 court, 6-2, 6-0. LePique took the No. 1 court over Marcano in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1, and freshman Braden Greenberg (Northport/Northport) won the No. 6 court against Liam Reria, 6-2, 6-4.
 
Schmid had a battle on the No. 4 court against Bannochie where Schmid won in straight sets with seven-point tie breaks. He won the first tie breaker to take the first set 7-6 (7-2), then won the second set tie break, 7-6 (7-5). Mann had a tough match himself on the No. 5 court against Demott. After dropping the first set in a tie break, 6-7 (5-7), Mann won the second set 6-4 to force a 10-point tie breaker where he won 10-6, completing Oneonta's shut out win.  

The Red Dragons host Ramapo on Tuesday at 4 pm for their final conference match of the season.
