ONEONTA, N.Y. -Â Eight different Red Dragons scored as the Oneonta women's lacrosse team cruised to a 21-7 win over Potsdam on Wednesday afternoon. Senior Megan Foiles (Pearl River, NY/Pearl River) led the way with 11 points on eight goals and three assists.Â
Oneonta (4-7, 3-2 SUNYAC) took an 11-2 lead in the first quarter, with Foiles netting five of her eight goals. After Potsdam (2-10, 0-7) won the opening draw control, junior goalkeeper Courtney Gallagher (Montrose, NY/Hendrick Hudson) stopped a shot from Mallory Marks. The Red Dragons sprinted for the clear, and junior Cassidy Moore (Hampton Bays, NY/Hampton Bays) passed to Foiles for the opening goal. Anita Peitano evened the score on a free position goal at 12:29, but Oneonta scored the following two from sophomore Ellie Downey (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon) and Foiles. Another free-position goal from Reitano cut the lead to 3-2, but it was all Oneonta afterward. The Red Dragons used an 8-0 run with three more goals from Foiles. Lauren Mancini (Miller Place, NY/Miller Place), Marissa Evans (Jamesville, NY/LaFayette), Mason Benvenuto (Lynbrook, NY/Lynbrook), and Ana Stiso (Latham, NY/Shaker) also scored in the span.Â
Oneonta tacked on two early second-quarter goals to start the running clock and led 13-3 heading into halftime.Â
Potsdam pulled within nine following a third goal from Reitano, but Mancini found the back of the net off a Foiles pass to put Oneonta ahead 14-4. Goals from Moore, Carly Szczepaniak (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake), and Benvenuto made it 17-4 going into the fourth quarter.
Foiles added two more goals in the fourth, while Moore and Evans each had one more.Â
Mancini had six points with four goals and two assists, while Evans, Benvenuto, and Moore all had two goals. Moore finished with a game-high four assists.
Gallagher made five saves, while Jennifer Tumino (Carle Place, N.Y./Carle Place), Julia Hawkins (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia), and Drue Marchetta (Lynbrook, NY/Lynbrook) each had one save.Â
Reitano finished with three goals and an assist, while Mallory Marks had two goals.Â
Oneonta hosts Brockport next on Sat. Apr. 15 at 3:30 p.m.
