ONEONTA, N.Y. - Senior Megan Foiles (Pearl River, NY/Pearl River) and junior Lauren Mancini (Miller Place, NY/Miller Place) combined for 11 goals in Oneonta women's lacrosse's 21-15 win at Hartwick on Wednesday afternoon. The Red Dragons (1-1) jumped to an 11-4 halftime lead and never let the Hawks (1-1) take the lead. 
Oneonta netted the opening goal less than two minutes in when junior Marissa Evans (Jamesville, NY/LaFayette) scored on a free-position shot. Evans netted another goal a minute later following a Hawks' yellow card to make it 2-0. Hartwick's Hanna Goodreau got the Hawks on the board at 10:11, but the Red Dragons closed the first quarter with five unanswered goals, four of which came from Foiles, to take a 7-1 lead. 
Hartwick scored to start the second, but sophomore Mason Benvenuto (Lynbrook, NY/Lynbrook) found the back of the net at 10:59. Sophomore Cassidy Moore (Hampton Bays, NY/Hampton Bays) won the following draw control and then scored at 10:25 to push the Oneonta lead to 9-2. The Red Dragons added two more goals from Folies and Evans before the half. 
Mancini netted two consecutive goals, and then Foiles assisted on a Miranda Murray (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) score at 9:36 in the third. Hartwick kept the game within seven following goals from Ellie Masterpole and Elle Stringer, but Oneonta responded with three straight to go up 17-7. 
The Hawks attempted a fourth-quarter comeback and outscored the Red Dragons 7-4 in the final frame. After Murray scored at 14:30, Hartwick netted five straight goals to make it 18-13. Sophomore Ellie Downey (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon) found the back of the net off an assist from junior Jaclyn Jackowski (Commack, NY/Commack). Hartwick cut the lead to 19-14, but two more goals from Mancini held the Oneonta lead. 
Eight different Red Dragons scored, with Foiles leading with six goals and ten draw controls. Mancini added five goals and four assists. Evans scored four goals. Downey led the team with seven groundballs. Junior Courtney Gallagher (Montrose, NY/Hendrick Hudson) started in goal and made three saves. Sophomore Julia Hawkins (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia) added seven stops. 
Masterpole led Hartwick with five goals, while Kristen Vaccarelli added four. Goalie Maddi Morrison made nine saves. 
Oneonta heads west for its spring break trip in California next. The Red Dragons play Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Sun. Mar. 12 at 4 p.m. est.
