ROCHESTER, N.Y. -Â Senior Megan Foiles (Pearl River, NY/Pearl River) netted five goals to eclipse the 100-career goals mark in the 21-14 loss to Rochester on Friday afternoon. The Red Dragons fall to 2-5 overall, while the Yellowjackets move to 6-4.Â
Rochester netted the opening a minute into the first quarter when Lucy Haggerty scored on a free position. Alyssa Gorny found the back of the net at 10:32 to push the Rochester lead to 2-0. Rochester won the ensuing draw control, but freshman Megan Hannon (Valley Cottage, N.Y./Nyack High School) caused a turnover to give Oneonta possession. Foiles then netted a free-position goal to get the Red Dragons on the board. The Yellowjackets answered with five-straight goals to go up 6-1 before Oneonta's Ellie Downey (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon) scored with 1:32 remaining in the quarter. Rochester added one more goal before the break to lead 7-2.
Sophomore Miranda Murray (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) scored at 14:05 in the second quarter, and then junior Lauren Mancini (Miller Place, NY/Miller Place) added another to cut the Rochester to four. The Yellowjackets rattled off two more goals before Mancini scored off a Foiles assist at 4:36 to spur a 3-0 Oneonta run comprised of goals from Mancini and Foiles. Rochester scored with one second left in the half to make it 11-7.Â
Foiles brought the game within three following an early third-quarter goal, but Rochester responded with two consecutive scores from Haggerty and Grace Crochiere. Junior Marissa Evans (Jamesville, NY/LaFayette) kept the Red Dragons in with a score at 11:27 to make it 13-9. Both sides traded goals until Jaclyn Jackowski (Commack, NY/Commack) made it 15-11.
Rochester went on to outscore Oneonta 5-3 in the fourth quarter, with Foiles, Mancini, and Evans scoring for the Red Dragons.Â
Mancini finished with five goals on five shots and won two draw controls. Foiles added seven points on four goals and three assists. Hannon led Oneonta with six ground balls and four caused turnovers.
Junior Courtney Gallagher (Montrose, NY/Hendrick Hudson) started in goal and made seven saves. Sophomore Julia Hawkins (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia) found some time in goal and made three stops.Â
Rochester's Alyssa Gorny scored six goals, while Haggerty finished with four and three assists.
Rochester's Emily Geiss made seven saves.
Oneonta returns to SUNYAC play on Sat. Apr. 1 to host Buffalo State at noon on Red Dragon Field.
