ONEONTA, N.Y. -- The SUNY Oneonta women's lacrosse team fell to No. 23 Hamilton, 14-10, Wednesday afternoon. The Red Dragons had three players score multiple goals while the team moved to 1-4 on the season and the Continentals improved to 4-3. Â
Junior
Lauren Mancini (Miller Place, NY/Miller Place) and sophomore
Miranda Murray (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) scored off passes from senior
Megan Foiles (Pearl River, NY/Pearl River) to put Oneonta ahead 2-0 at 12:00. Hamilton then strung together three straight goals before junior
Marissa Evans (Jamesville, NY/LaFayette) found Foiles to make it three apiece at 4:36. Alex Orlando and Foiles traded goals before the end of the first period, keeping the game tied at four. Â
The Continentals built up a four-goal lead heading into halftime after a 5-1 second period. Aine Cleary netted two of the goals and had an assist for Hamilton while junior
Margaret Byrne (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington) scored off a dish from Murray for the Red Dragons lone goal in the quarter. The Continentals went into halftime up 9-5.
Alana King extended the lead to 10-5 until sophomore
Ellie Downey (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon) found the back of the net on a free position shot at 8:26. After Downey scored, King recorded a pair of goals and Orlando added one more to give Hamilton a seven-goal advantage at 5:29. Downey recorded her second goal of the game to cut the deficit to 13-7 heading into the fourth. Â
Junior
Jaclyn Jackowski (Commack, NY/Commack) netted the first goal of the final period off a free position shot at 12:11. Hamilton's Marin Ciardiello got an unassisted goal a minute later however Mancini pulled the Red Dragons back to within five with a free position goal with 9:23 remaining. Murray scored her second of the game at 4:04 to make it 10-14 but that would be the game's final goal.
Downey, Foiles, and Mancini each scored twice for Oneonta. Foiles also added two assists and caused two turnovers while Downey caused a pair of turnovers.
Junior
Courtney Gallagher (Montrose, NY/Hendrick Hudson) recorded 14 saves and had four groundballs. Â
Cleary finished with four goals and an assist, and King and Orlando each recorded a hat trick for the Continentals. Kaitlin Reed was in goal for the second half and saved six shots. Â
The Red Dragons are back in action on Saturday for the start of SUNYAC play at Fredonia at 1 pm.Â
