CLAREMONT, CA -Â The Oneonta women's lacrosse team dropped a 17-7 decision to No. 20 Ponoma-Pitzer on Tuesday afternoon. The Sagehens (8-1) outscored the Red Dragons (1-4) 8-2 in the second half to pull away for the victory.Â
After the Sagehens took the opening goal, junior Lauren Mancini (Miller Place, NY/Miller Place) scored on a free position attempt to tie at 1-1. Ponoma-Pitzer netted the following two goals, capitalizing on a woman-up to take a 3-1 lead. The Sagehens won the ensuing draw control, and Oneonta goalkeeper Courtney Gallagher (Montrose, NY/Hendrick Hudson) stopped a shot from Grace Warner. The Red Dragons moved quickly on the clear, with Marissa Evans (Jamesville, NY/LaFayette) picking up Cassidy Moore (Hampton Bays, NY/Hampton Bays) for another score. Ponoma-Pitzer answered with a goal from Taylor Glanville before senior Megan Foiles (Pearl River, NY/Pearl River) found the back of the net with four seconds remaining in the first to make it 4-3.Â
Ponoma-Pitzer dominated the second quarter, using a 4-0 run to take a five-point lead. Goals by Mancini and Moore kept it within three, but Ponoma's Caroline Worthington snuck in another goal before halftime.Â
The second half was all Sagehens as the hosts rattled off five-straight goals in the third quarter. Folies tallied a goal before the break and another to start the fourth to record a hat trick, but that was all the Red Dragons could muster.Â
Foiles finished with five points on three goals and an assist, while Moore and Mancini each had two. Gallagher finished with 19 saves.
Fiona Lewis led the Sagehens with four goals, while Shosi Henderson added five assists. Goalkeeper Ruby Loesch made four saves.Â
Oneonta returns home next week to play Hamilton on Wed. Mar. 22 at 4 p.m. on Red Dragon Field.Â
