BROCKPORT, N.Y. - The Oneonta men's track & field placed fourth out of nine teams following the second day of the SUNYAC Championships. In total, five Red Dragons were named all-conference. Oneonta scored 49 points, while Geneseo took the team title with 184 points.
The remainder of the heptathlon concluded on the second day, with junior Ricard Mangogna breaking his school record to finish first with 4,649 points. He was named first-team all-conference. Junior Aidan Kelly (Farmingdale, NY/Farmingdale) earned All-SUNYAC Third Team honors after placing third with 4,323 points. Mangogna placed first in the pole vault at 4.40 meters and took third in the 60-hurdles (9.17). Kelly cleared 3.60 meters in the pole vault for second place.
Junior Alex Mavros (Hopewell Junction, NY/Arlington) competed in the 60-hurdles finals and took eighth overall at 9.01. Junior Luke Jarski (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) received third-team all-conference in the 800-meter race after running a 1:55.02 for third overall.
Oneonta added another all-conference performance in the 3,000-meter when junior Jonthomas Bierman (Mamaroneck, NY/Mamaroneck) crossed third overall at 8:33.42.
The Red Dragons concluded the track events with the 4x400 relay group of Alec Weiss (Selden, NY/Newfield), Nick Darrigo (Albany, NY/Guilderland), Joshua Jerome, and Jarski running a 3:23.73 for fifth place.
Freshman Alex Ordonez (Troy, NY/Troy) tied for third in the high jump to pick up All-SUNYAC Third Team honors with a mark of 1.85 meters.
In the shot put, junior Vincent Zheng (Nanuet, NY/Nanuet) took sixth overall with a throw of 13.31 meters. Freshman Joseph Ciardi (Accord, NY/) finished tenth in the long jump at 6.45 meters.
Oneonta continues the season at the AARTFC Indoor Championships held at the Armory in New York City on Mar. 3-4.
