Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Oneonta Plays Division I Lehigh in Exhibition Contest

BETHLEHEM, PA - The Oneonta men's basketball traveled to face Division I Lehigh University on Thursday evening, falling 90-65 to the Mountain Hawks. Sophomore Javen Flowers-Smith (Atlanta, GA/Pembroke Pines Charter) led the Red Dragons with 14 points and four assists.

"Tonight we played another good opponent, and we are quickly learning that it is hard to win a college basketball game, siad head coach Camerona Conover. "We have to be more consistent in all facets of the game."

Lehigh (1-3) jumped out to a 7-0 lead with four points coming from Tyler Whitney-Sidney. Flowers-Smith scored on a crafty inside layup to break the streak, but Lehigh's Bube Momah hit a layup to make it 9-7. Senior Graham Wooden (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) hit a mid-range jumper off an assist from Caleb Brown (Brooklyn, NY/Uncommon Charter) at 15:44 to start an 11-0 Oneonta run that gave the Red Dragons a 13-9 lead with 13 minutes left in the half. Sophomore Tyler Harts (Queens, NY/Sewanaka) scored inside after rebounding his own miss, and Oneonta went up by four.

The lead was short as the Mountain Hawks' Keith Higgins, Jr. drained a three-pointer at 11:31 to start a 20-0 span to push Lehigh ahead 31-16. Freshman Luke De Gannes (Burlington, Ontario/Tennessee Prep) hit a triple at 5:31 to cut the lead to 13, but Lehigh answered with a trey from Ben Knostman. Sophomore Delano Knox (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington) picked up Wooden for a fast break triple at 4:23, and then a dunk by Daniel Penubothula (Valley Stream, NY/Valley Stream Central) cut it to 43-27. Lehigh scored right before the halftime buzzer to make it 47-29.

Flowers-Smith hit a three-pointer to start the second half, and then a Brown layup was followed by a three from PJ Laidley (Fort Lauderdale, FL/Pembroke Pines Charter) to make it 53-38. Oneonta remained competitive, but the Mountain Hawks muscled their way to a 35-point lead. Freshman Elijah Morris (Mount Vernon, NY/Mount Vernon) hit a three-pointer at 3:50 and then converted a pair of free throws following a Ryan Teaney (Schenectady, NY/Guilderland) steal to bring the game to 88-59. Senior Seidina Doukoure (Bronx, NY/The MacDuffie School) hit two jumpers in the final minute, and De Gannes grabbed the final points for the Red Dragons.

Wooden added nine points and three rebounds, while Laidley had nine points, two blocks, and two steals. Harts finished with seven points and five boards, while Penubothula had six rebounds.

Lehigh had five players in double-digits, with Whitney-Sidney scoring 16 points and Keith Higgins, Jr adding 11. Dominic Parolin scored ten points with nine rebounds.

Oneonta has a short break until they host Wells College on Mon. Nov. 27 at 5 p.m. in Dewar Arena.
