GALLOWAY, N.J. -- The SUNY Oneonta field hockey team dropped their non-conference match to Stockton, 9-2, Sunday morning. Seniors
Abigail Ricottilli (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland) and
Michaela Maniscalco (Northport, N.Y./Northport) found the back of the cage for the Red Dragons as the team dropped to 7-9 on the season, while the Ospreys improved to 14-4.
Three different Stockton players scored to put them ahead 3-0 by 17:49. Oneonta's first goal came at 18:13 when freshman
Alexandra Howell (Holtsville, N.Y./Sachem East) was moving the ball in transition. She sent a lead pass into the shooting circle that almost went out on the baseline, however graduate student
Morgan Fleming (Harpursville, N.Y./Harpursville) tracked it down and passed it in front of the cage to Ricottilli who turned away from the defender, towards the ball, and shot it in. The Ospreys tallied three more before the end of the half to go ahead 6-1.
After another pair of Stockton goals, Oneonta recorded their second goal at 51:34. Ricottilli received the ball in the corner of the shooting circle and passed it up front to Howell for a shot, but a charging Osprey goalie, Kylie Mitchell, made the save. Maniscalco recovered the ball, took a shot herself that was stopped by Mitchell, regained possession of the ball again and backhanded it towards the cage for the ball to bounce off Mitchell's foot padding and in for the score. Shortly after Maniscalco's goal, Stockton added one more goal for the 9-2 final.
Sophomore
Maura Leib (East Syracuse, N.Y./East Syracuse Minoa) played 38:14 and recorded three saves, while sophomore
Chelsea Dodenhoff (Islip Terrace, N.Y./East Islip) played 21:46 and made one save. Mitchell led the Ospreys with five saves in the 30 minutes she played.
Stockton outshot Oneonta 24-15, 13-10 on target, and had a 12-9 advantage on penalty corners.
The Red Dragons are back in action Wednesday for their regular season conference finale at New Paltz at 4 pm.Â
