Oneonta, NY - The SUNY Oneonta Women's Tennis Team have now extended their win streak to eight dual matches. Today's win over the Baruch College Bearcats was impressive allowing the opponents just one individual match. The Red Dragons over their last four-contests have only dropped three individual matches (doubles or singles) after a sweep this weekend of SUNYAC pool play and today's victory over the Bearcats 8-1.
Singles got on the courts first today on senior day and the Oneonta Coach
Lonnie Mitchel played only his graduating seniors. The seniors playing their last home match of their careers and embraced the win streak extending it to eight. Numbers two-six had little or no trouble getting all straight set wins. Senior
Madeline Carswell (Bethlehem/Bethlehem Central) lost only three-games on route to her 6-1, 6-2 triumph. Number three senior
Rebecca Macdonald (Brooklyn/Leon M. Goldstein) was locked in a competitive match but held on in the moments that counted most tallying her 7-5, 6-3 victory. Senior
Amelia Wilson (Averill Park/Averill Park) having a solid spring herself and notching up victories when called upon scored a another straight set win in the fourth position 6-4, 6-1. Then her high school team tapped to play number five today, senior
Ariel Loucks (Averill Park/Averill Park) was locked in a tight first set in which she prevailed 7-5 and then cruised to clinch her win with a second set 6-2 score. Finally in the sixth position senior
Stephanie Menoutis (Warwick/Warwick Valley) was quite impressive clinching a 6-2, 6-0 win and making the score 5-1 going into doubles play. The only setback came from this week's Athlete of The Week award winner senior
Olivia Fraser (Queensbury/Queensbury) losing in a close highly competitve match of two very consistent players, a super tiebreaker was needed to decide the outcome. Unfortunately for Fraser she ended up on the short side of 10-4 score.
The dual match was clinched going into doubles play. The Red Dragons though did not take the foot off the pedal and took all doubles matches to complete the 8-1 win. Carswell and her regular partner junior
Maxie Karen (New York, NY/The Clinton School) won doubling up their opponents withstanding a short lived comeback from their opponents 8-4. Fraser and Macdonald the SUNYAC doubles team of the week continued their winning ways cruising onto an 8-3 win. Finally seniors
Brianna Harmon (Endicott/Union Endicott) and
Sarah Sampson (Albany/Albany) shutout their foes to clinch the 8-1 Red Dragon victory. Â
A celebratory moment for the entire squad as the seniors closed out the home season on a very blustery afternoon with an impressive victory, The SUNY Oneonta women though have much work to do and their next opponent is a SUNYAC matchup of their arch rival the SUNY New Paltz Hawks. That matchup will be on Saturday, April 23rd beginning at 1:00 PM on the campus of SUNY New Paltz.
