The Inside Story
The Red Dragons came out firing and scored eight in the first, while keeping the Rams scoreless. Junior
Megan Foiles (Pearl River/Pearl River) took the lid off and scored first with a free position goal. A couple minutes later, Foiles dished it to Morris who ran through a couple Farmingdale defenders to score her first goal of the contest. Halfway through the first, Hughes netted one from freshman
Miranda Murray's (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) pass. Sophomore
Marissa Evans (Jamesville/LaFayette) scored her first goal of the season after a give and go play with Foiles. Morris recorded her second goal from a free position shot, extending the lead to 5-0, with 5:27 left in the first. Less than a minute later, Mancini created some space with her defender from a screen, got the ball from Hughes and scored. Foiles scored her second goal after a man-down free position shot, and junior
Lauren Sullivan (Pearl River/Pearl River) scored a wraparound goal before the end of the first. Â
During the second quarter, Oneonta outscored Farmingdale 4-3. The Rams ended their scoreless drought with a man-up free position goal from Megan Diamond with 10:51 left in the half. Brown later scored on a free position for Farmingdale. For Oneonta, senior
Kelly McCloe (Endicott/Union-Endicott) recorded her first goal of the season, Mancini scored her second of the contest, and Morris secured the hat trick before halftime with a free position shot. The Red Dragons entered halftime up 12-3.
The third quarter was back and forth, with each team scoring three goals. Mancini and Hughes recorded their hat tricks, while Murray scored her first collegiate goal in the quarter. Farmingdale had Vogiatzis, Diamond, and Nicole Pontecorvo score. Â
