ONEONTA, N.Y. -Â The Oneonta men's swimming and diving team won nine events to secure a 164-122 victory over Brockport in Saturday afternoon's home opener. Senior Kyle Copper (Canandaigua, NY/Marcus Whitman) won two individual events and was also part of two first-place relays.Â
The Red Dragons opened by winning the 200-yard medley relay. James Llewellyn (Great River, NY/East Islip), Ross Caimano (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury), Copper, and Mason DeLisio (Kingston, NY/Kingston) finished at 1:41.16. Sophomore Jonathan Stanzione (East Islip, NY/East Islip) won his first of two events by taking first in the 1,000-yard freestyle. He finished at 11:22.51, nearly a minute faster than the second-place finisher.Â
DeLisio won the 200-yard freestyle at 1:50.51, while first-year Brendan Heaney (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Forks Central) was third at 2:04.21. Llewellyn placed second in the 100-yard backstroke with a 57.43. Caimano took second in the 100-yard breaststroke with a 1:06.50, and Stanzione was third with a 1:08.36.Â
Copper won his first individual event by taking the 200-yard butterfly in a time of 2:03.89. Oneonta took the top-two spots in the 50-yard freestyle, with Eli Cohen (Schoharie, NY/East Lake (Fla)) swimming a 23.00 and Daniel Oh (Huntington, NY/Harborfields) right behind at 23.03. The duo then repeated in the 100-yard freestyle. Cohen swam a 50.54 for first, and Oh was second at 51.31.Â
Stanzione picked up a second victory in the 200-yard breaststroke at 2:28.93. Heaney placed second with a time of 2:38.04.Â
Delisio went on to take first in the 500-yard freestyle and finished with a time of 5:06.33. Copper posted a 54.14 to win the 100-yard butterfly, and Oh was second with a 56.65. In the 200-yard IM, Cohen swam a 2:12.97 for second overall.Â
The Red Dragons then capped off the meet with a first-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Copper, Llewellyn, Oh, and DeLision finished at 1:30.76.
Senior Colin Davis (Chester, NY/Monroe-Woodbury) competed in the diving events and placed second in the one-meter with 168.45. He then was second in the three-meter with 252.10.Â
The Red Dragons are back in action on Sun. Nov. 6 to face RPI and Saint Rose in Troy, NY, at 1 p.m.
