Oneonta Men's Swimming & Diving Medals in Two Events on Third Day of SUNYAC Championships

Nick Rhodes Sets Program Record in 100-yard Backstroke

BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Oneonta men's swim & dive team picked up two more medals and a program record on the third day of the SUNYAC Championships on Thursday evening at the Burt Flickinger Athletic Center. Through three days, Oneonta is fourth out of 11 teams with 286 points. Penn State Behrend is first with 591.

The Oneonta relay group of Nick Rhodes (Rockville Centre, N.Y.), Delroy Tyrrell (Trincity, Trinidad and Tobago/), Calvin Hitzschke (Mexico, NY/Mexico Academy & Central School), and Cosmo Martinelli (Albany, NY/Albany) grabbed their third medal of the week with a second-place finish in the 400-yard medley relay at 3:28.20.

In the 100-yard butterfly finals, Rhodes placed fourth at 51.34, while Tyrrell took eighth with a time of 53.03. Hitzschke finished 14th at 53.93.

Martinelli earned a seventh-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke finals at 59.77. Senior Brendan Heaney (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Forks Central) swam a 1:02.98 to place 14th, and sophomore Dudley Bastion took 16th at 1:03.58.

Rhodes took silver in the 100-yard backstroke with a program record time of 49.59. Tyrrell was sixth at 53.97.

In the one-meter dive, sophomore Ben Heyman (Glens Falls, NY/Glens Falls) scored 311.30 points to take fifth overall.

Oneonta concludes the SUNYAC Championships on Saturday, February 21, at 10 a.m.
