Four men's soccer players named All-Region

Battistoni and Fecci earn First Team honors

The United Soccer Coaches have announced its All-Region Teams for the 2021 season and SUNY Oneonta had four individuals honored for their on-field performances this fall.  Earning First Team selection was senior Tristan Battistoni (Pleasant Valley/Arlington) and junior Lucas Fecci (Somers/Somers).  Both are now eligible for All-America selection released in the coming week.
 
Also earning honors as All-Region players are senior Matt Howe (Hopewell Junction/John Jay) and junior Ethan Brunell (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) who were both named to the Region 3 Second Team.  Previously, both Howe and Brunell were selected to the SUNYAC All-Conference Second Team this fall.
 
"These All-Region awards illustrate how other coaches value our players and are a nice reward for the four recipients," said Head Coach Iain Byrne.  "
 
Battistoni and Fecci both garnered SUNYAC All-Conference First Team honors along with being selected as the Defensive and Offensive Players of the Year respectively in the conference.  Battistoni became the fourth Red Dragon to earn the top defensive award while Fecci became the third to be honored as the top offensive player.  All-time, including conference and East Division MVP's, the two became the 10th and 11th individuals to be selected as the top players in the SUNYAC from Oneonta.
 
Battistoni was the leader of the defensive unit that held opponents to less than one goal per game this fall.  Battistoni also contributed on the offensive end with three goals and one assist for seven points.  He was a three-year Captain and starter for the Red Dragons playing in 54 games and collecting five goals and two assists.
 
Fecci had a breakout season for the Red Dragons this fall leading the team in scoring with 26 points on 11 goals and four assists.  Fecci registered five game-winning goals and scored multiple goals in three matches.
 
Howe and Brunell are first time All-Region players in 2021.  This fall, Howe started 16 of Oneonta's 17 games and was second on the team in scoring with 17 points on six goals and five assists.  For his career, Howe started 38 of 55 games played registering 32 points on 10 goals and 12 assists.
 
Brunell led the team this season with six assists to go with a pair of goals.
 
Oneonta finished the season with an overall record of 10-4-3 while earning its ninth NCAA Division III tournament berth in the last 10 seasons.  The Red Dragons were in and out of the United Soccer Coaches Div. III coaches poll all season attaining its highest ranking of No. 5 back on Sep. 28th.
