Brockport, NY - The SUNY Oneonta men's swimming and diving team just returned from Puerto Rico and its annual training trip and, after a few days to recover, headed to Brockport for this all-important SUNYAC meet. Unfortunately for the Oneonta men they were on the short end of a 160-136 score.
Several highlights for the men though to report on. The 1000 yard freestyle saw sophomore
Sean Geddes (Farmingdale/Farmingdale) take top honors for the Red Dragons securing a win with a time of 10:52.98 with senior
Jared Ciccarelli (Staten Island/Tottenville) taking a runner-up position just under two-seconds behind. The 200 yard freestyle had an Oneonta winner when senior
Scott Richardson (Canandaigua/Canandaigua Academy) took the event with a time of 1:48.99 just over a second ahead of the Brockport challenger. Richardson and Cicarelli were winners and runner-up respectfully with times of 2:07.55 and 2:13.51 in the 200 yard butterfly.Â
Junior
Ryan Meehan (Brooklyn/Telecommunications) was a Red Dragon victor taking the win in the 50 yard butterfly with a time of 23.53 only .50 seconds ahead of the Brockport trailer. Later Ciccarelli had a triumph of his own in the 50 yard freestyle securing a time of 5:14.53 more than five-seconds ahead of the Brockport second place finisher.
The 200 yard individual medley had a Red Dragon winner when junior
Christopher Costanzo (Staten Island/Susan E. Wagner) touched the wall with a time of 2:11.47. Just under three-seconds behind was senior
Douglas Alliano (Massapequa/Massapequa) recording a runner-up spot for Oneonta.Â
The last win on the day for the Red Dragons was a triumph in the 400 yard freestyle relay as Richardson, Meehan, Geddes and Costanzo joined to form winning combination timing in at 3:27.41.
Next up for the Red Dragons is a meet against another SUNYAC foe as they compete against the New Paltz Hawks on Saturday , January 25th beginning at 1 PM in the Chase PE pool on the campus of SUNY Oneonta.
