Oneonta, NY - The SUNY Oneonta men's swimming and diving team had its first home meet of the season, but had to settle for a loss to their Catskill Cup rival New Paltz Hawks 108.50-96.50. Overtaking the New Paltz Hawks on this day was hard to overcome with two pool records dropping in the 200 yard freestyle and 200 yard individual medley secured by the visiting team.
The loss however was not without some great highlights for the Red Dragon men. The first win for the Red Dragons was in the initial event on the day when freshman
Shane Mills (Highland Mills/Monroe-Woodbury), senior
Zeke Brynin (Pleasantville/Pleasantville), sophomores
Scott Richardson (Canandaigua/Canandaigua Academy) and
Daniel Alton (Long Beach/Long Beach) joined forces and secured victory in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:41.77 more than two seconds ahead of the New Paltz relay squad. The second win came from freshman
Daniel Kohler (Nanuet/Nanuet) who took the top position in the 1000 yard freestyle touching the wall at 10:38.47 with teammate sophomore
Jared Ciccarelli (Staten Island/Tottenville) securing the runner-up position less than a second behind.
The 50 yard freestyle was a Red Dragon win as freshman
William Coddington (Highland Mills/Monroe-Woodbury) took top honors securing a time of 22.55 less than a half second ahead of the New Paltz runner-up. Coddington also found a winner's success securing victory in the 100 yard freestyle touching the wall with a time of 49.06 over two-seconds ahead of the New Paltz second place finisher.
In the final win for the day for the Red Dragon men, Brynin returned to the winner's circle as an individual performer in the 100 yard breaststroke timing in at 1:00.79 almost three-seconds ahead of the New Paltz second place finisher.
The SUNY Oneonta men will get back in the pool and take on their arch rivals SUNY Cortland at 1:00 PM on Saturday, February 3rd beginning at 1 PM in the Chase PE Pool on the campus of SUNY Oneonta.
