The SUNY Oneonta Red Dragon's men's swimming and diving team returned home for the first time since November 7th and celebrated the long time away from the Chase PE Pool with a lopsided win over their SUNYAC rival Brockport 141-76.
Highlighting the day was a pair of pool records set by the men. Senior
Daniel Donaghy (Holtsville/Sachem East) set an individual pool record in the 1650 yard freestyle taking the event with a time of 17:52.69. That time was almost 32 seconds ahead of his SUNY Brockport rival.
Donaghy later joined teammates seniors
Kevin Flessa (Middletown/Middletown),
Cody Galusha (Endicott/Maine-Endwell) and
Colton Roe (Middletown/Pine Bush) as they took top honors in the 800 Yard Freestyle Relay with a time of 7:32.96 earning not only a pool record but eleven points for their Red Dragon team.
Other notable performances in the meet came from the 400 yard medley relay with juniors
Joseph Morgan (Cornwall/Cornwall) and
Lucas Santiago (Amsterdam/Amsterdam), freshman
Zeke Brynin (Pleasantville/Pleasantville) and senior
Merrick Shawe (Farmington/Victor) winning the event with a time of 3:47.81.
In the 200 yard freestyle the Red Dragons took first, second and third as Roe had the top honors with a time of 1:53.35 with freshman
Connor Killane (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) and sophomore
Conor Kelly (Staten Island/Saint Peter's) respectfully right behind earning 16 points for the home team.
In the 50 yard freestyle, Flessa and Shawe were first and second combining for 13 points in that event.
Continuing on with the Red Dragon winning ways in 10th event of the afternoon Santiago, Brynin and Morgan were first, second and third in the 200 Yard IM.  Later Santiago, Brynin were first and second again in the 100 yard butterfly with Galusha taking third earning another 16 points for Oneonta.
The victorious trend continued in the 100 yard freestyle when Flessa, Shawe and Donaghy took the top three spots for the Red Dragons. Roe would not be outdone when he found another victory in the 100 yard backstroke with an impressive time of 54.70.
The men will be back in action on Saturday, January 24th as they compete against their conference rival SUNY New Paltz beginning at 1 PM at the Elting Pool on the campus of SUNY New Paltz.
