Nicole Boylan (Massapequa/Massapequa) and
Kiera McNally (East Northport/Northport) scored one goal each in overtime to lift the SUNY Oneonta women's lacrosse team to an 11-9 victory today at home against No. 13 Brockport in the SUNYAC opener for both squads. McNally led the attack for the Red Dragons in the game with five goals while Boylan's score was her only one of the contest.
Boylan's goal came unassisted after she took a pass on the wing before she made a move through the defense and put a shot into the back of the goal. McNally's goal came after she one-timed a feed from freshman
Katie Flannery (Massapequa/Plainedge).
In a match that was tightly contested throughout, it was Brockport (5-2) that tied the game with a pair of goals in the final two minutes to send the game to the extra period. Makensie Schuber scored a man down goal at 58:45 before Kelly Wall scored the game-tying goal on a free position shot at 59:33. Wall and Schuber finished the game with two goals apiece.
Brockport had a 4-1 lead in the first half after Schuber scored an unassisted goal in the 22nd minute.
McNally scored her first goal of the contest in the 29th minute to pull Oneonta (6-3) to within 4-2 entering halftime.
McNally opened the scoring in the second half on a free position shot to make the score 4-3.
Nina Tessone scored back-to-back goals within one minute of each other to push the Golden Eagles' lead back to three goals at 6-3.
The two teams traded goals before Oneonta ripped off five unanswered goals to take its first lead of the game at 9-7 with just under 10 minutes to play in the game. McNally and classmate
Nikki Fioretti (Yorktown Heights/Yorktown) each scored a pair of goals during the run. Sophomore
Catherine Clark (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills) finished the run with a backhand goal while falling to the ground.
Sophomore goalie,
Amanda Reichardt (Kings Park/Kings Park), made eight saves in goal for Oneonta, as she raised her record to 6-3. Brockport goalie, Remle Harr, made nine saves for the Golden Eagles.
Oneonta will continue its home stand on Tuesday when they welcome rival SUNY Cortland to town. Cortland is currently ranked No. 2 in Division III. The game is scheduled for a 4pm start.
