Box Score The Hamilton College women's lacrosse team (4-3) won for the third time in four outings, rallying to beat SUNY Oneonta 7-6 in non-league action at Steuben Field Thursday. The Continentals, ranked 20th nationally, trailed 4-1 late in the opening period and scored the game-winning goal with 4:28 left in regulation.
Hamilton took the lead for good on a goal by Morgan Fletcher with under five minutes remaining. Fletcher sent a shot between the legs of Oneonta goaltender
Amanda Reichardt (Kings Park/Kings Park) for her second goal of the season. Hamilton won the ensuing draw control, leading to a shot that Reichardt saved to set up three Red Dragon possessions in the final 4:04. Oneonta turned the ball over twice and took two shots – one went high and the other was saved by Hannah Rubin.
Margaret Gabriel led Hamilton with three assists and a goal. She took over the team scoring lead, raising her season total to 19 points. She assisted on a goal by Katie D'Antonio with 39 seconds left in the first half that started the Continental rally, then picked up another assist 21 seconds into the second when Hannah Withiam picked up her first goal of the spring.
After
Casey Sarle (West Islip/West Islip) scored an unassisted goal to put the Red Dragons up 5-3, Hamilton scored twice in under a minute to tie the game. Ashleigh Stephan scored with 20:17 to go and 57 seconds later Gabriel drew the Continentals even. They took the lead midway through the period on a free-position goal by Emily Randall (the first of her career).
Oneonta knotted the game on a goal by
Jillian Donodeo (Holbrook/Sachem East) 19 seconds after a Hamilton player was sent off the field with a yellow card.
Catherine Clark (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills) and
Chelsea Collins (St. James/Smithtown East) combined for three goals and two assists, all during Oneonta's opening run. Clark opened the game's scoring with a free-position goal after 15 scoreless minutes.
Rubin played the second half and stopped a pair of shots to earn the win. Reichardt finished with 19 saves, turning aside 12 of Hamilton's first 13 shots.
Marissa Makar (Yorktown/Yorktown) picked up three ground balls to lead Oneonta and
Nicole Boylan (Massapequa/Massapequa) caused four turnovers.
Lauren Brady paced Hamilton with three caused turnovers and recorded three ground balls. Alice Grant and Emily Brodsky – who scored Hamilton's first goal – added three ground balls apiece.
Hamilton returns to NESCAC action Saturday with a noon game at Bates. The Bobcats, ranked 16th nationally, are the fourth nationally ranked conference opponent the Continentals have faced. Oneonta plays a SUNYAC game at home versus #13 Brockport Saturday beginning at 2:30pm.
