The SUNY Oneonta men's swimming & diving team opened its 2014-15 dual-meet schedule at home today versus SUNYAC opponent Oswego. The meet was a one sided affair with the Red Dragons coming away with a 133 - 105 victory.
The 200-yard medley relay was the opening event and the The Red Dragons took first place with a combined time 1:57.20. Seniors
Colton Roe (Middletown/Pine Bush) and
Daniel Condon (Middletown/Middletown) along with freshman
Zeke Brynin (Pleasantville/Pleasantville) and junior
Lucas Santiago (Amsterdam/Amsterdam) were impressive in earning 11 points for SUNY Oneonta.
In the 1000-yard freestyle, freshman
Connor Killane (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) took first place with a time of 10:50.88 earning nine points for his team 26 seconds ahead of the second place finisher from Oswego.
Killane's performance was followed by the 200-yard freestyle with senior
Daniel Donaghy (Holtsville/Sachem East) and junior
Stephen Penteck (Holbrook/Sachem North) touching 1-2 with a time of 1:50.65 and 1:53.27 respectfully.
The 50-yard freestyle brought a first place finish for junior
Anthony Franchi (Canajoharie/Canajoharie) with an impressive time of 22.93. The next event was the 200-yard IM and the Red Dragons continued its winning ways finding Santiago in the win column just 3.5 seconds ahead of his teammate Brynin.
In event number 14, the 100- yard butterfly, Santiago found himself again in the win column with a time of 54.46 earning another nine points for the Red Dragons just under three seconds ahead of his Oswego opponent.
Later on in the 100-yard freestyle, senior
Merrick Shawe (Farmington/Victor) took first place honors when he touched in with a time of 50.76 just .13 seconds ahead of Franchi. The Red Dragons kept up a winning habit taking first and second place in the 100-yard backstroke with Roe and junior
Joseph Morgan (Cornwall/Cornwall) taking the winner and runner up spot with times of 54.59 and 58.09 respectfully.
In the 20th event of the day, the 500-yard freestyle had the Red Dragons take first, second and third place. Penteck took the winners spot with Donaghy and Killane completing the sweep.
In the 1M Dive Oswego got the better of the Red Dragons with freshmen
Ethan Kurth (Earlville/Sherburne) and
Anthony Albro (Bohemia/Connetquot) taking third and fourth earning a total of five points for Oneonta.
The Red Dragons will have just a few days to enjoy the fruits of their labors. They will have to begin preparations for their next meet when SUNY Oneonta welcomes The College of St. Rose to campus to compete head to head on Friday, November 7th at 4pm.
