The SUNY Oneonta field hockey team is poised to make a run at the SUNYAC title and its quest will begin Friday morning at 11am versus top-seeded and host SUNY Cortland in the semifinals of the SUNYAC tournament. Tomorrow's winner will face the SUNY New Paltz/SUNY Geneseo winner in the championship game on Saturday at 1pm, also at Cortland.
In its third year of holding a conference tournament, the champion will receive an automatic berth to the NCAA Div. III tournament, which begins Wed., Nov. 13 with first round games. The national championship weekend is scheduled for Nov. 23-24 at L.R. Hill Sports Complex on the campus of Old Dominion University.
Oneonta enters this year's tournament as the No. 4 seed after finishing 3-3 in conference play. The Red Dragons are 12-7 overall and winners in two of its last three games. Oneonta has out scored its opponents 65-33 this season while holding a 177-165 advantage in penalty corners.

Kelcy Forbragd (Camden/Camden) is having a breakout season as well for the Red Dragons; as she is second on the team with a career best 14 goals and 31 points. Entering this season Forbragd scored a total of seven goals.

Cortland is 13-2 overall and ranked No. 14 in the latest NFHCA Coach's Poll. In the regular season meeting between the two just two weeks ago at Cortland, Oneonta fell in double overtime 3-2. A pair of goals by Day gave Oneonta a 2-1 lead in the second half until Cortland scored the game-tying goal with no time left on the clock. Cortland netted the game-winner in the 93rd minute.
This is the second time that the two teams will be meeting in the conference tournament. Two years ago, the two locked up in the championship game at Cortland. In an epic battle, Cortland pulled out a 2-1 victory in the first overtime period.
Oneonta is in search of its first SUNYAC title in the program's history. The Red Dragons have played in three NCAA tournaments (1984, 1990, 1992).
