Box Score
SUNY Oneonta sophomore
Rebecca Monteith (West Islip/West Islip) scored three goals today, including her 50th of the season as the Red Dragons took down conference opponent Oswego by the score of 19-5. It's the second straight year Monteith has surpassed the 50-goal plateau. Last spring, during her rookie season, she set a program record with 73 goals.
Oswego (6-10/0-7 SUNYAC) would strike first just 1:54 into the game as Kristen Darcy
(East Syracuse/East Syracuse-Minoa) scored to give the Lakers an early 1-0 lead. Oneonta (9-5/3-4 SUNYAC) would then score 10 unanswered goals over a span of 16:16 to put the game out of reach. The outburst of goals was led by senior
Somer Shuffield (East Rochester/East Rochester) (East Rochester/East Rochester) who scored three straight during the scoring streak. Monteith scored her 50th goal of the season 15:27 into the first half.
Oswego would answer just once more in the half asMaria Martusewicz (Redwood/Watertown) scored to break up the Red Dragon rally. After the Martusewicz tally, Oneonta would answer with three more goals in the half, including a pair from
Rosemarie Fazio (Mohegan Lake/Lakeland).
After the break, freshman
Caroline Tulley (Malverne/Sacred Heart Academy) would score off a pass from
Samantha Voor (West Islip/West Islip) five minutes into the period to give her four goals on the afternoon. The Tulley goal was followed shortly thereafter by Shuffield as both led the Red Dragons this afternoon with four goals apiece.
Oswego would shorten the deficit scoring three times in the last 16:30, but it was far from enough to overcome the high powered Oneonta offense on senior day.
In goal for the Red Dragons was sophomore
Annelise Muscietta (Lindenhurst/Walter O'Connell Copiague) who made seven saves while allowing just five goals, playing all 60 minutes. For the Lakers Nicole Nalle (Oswego/Oswego) started and made nine saves and allowed 17 goals before making way for Lauren Marois (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) who came into the game with just under 21 minutes remaining to make 5 saves of her own while allowing the final two Red Dragon goals.
Oneonta will play their final game of the 2010 season tomorrow afternoon as they travel to SUNY Potsdam to take on the Bears with the game set to begin at 1 p.m.
