Union College Defeats SUNY Oneonta 8-4

Sophomore Blair Hanson nets pair in loss to Dutchmen

Box Score

SUNY Oneonta sophomore Blair Hanson (Fayetteville/Fayetteville Manlius) netted a pair of goals today, but a stingy Union College defense allowed only two other goals in taking an 8-4 road win against the Red Dragons today in non conference men's lacrosse action.

Union (3-1) scored a pair of unassisted goals to take a 2-0 lead at the end of the first period. Sophomore Ethan Meyer (Brewster/Brewster) finally broke the scoreless tie at the 8:26 mark while junior Brendan Kinnane (Little Compton, RI/Portsmouth Abbey) added the second goal of the period with 26 seconds left.

Oneonta (2-1) took control at the start of the second period with three unanswered goals to take a 3-2 lead.

Freshman #Jimmy van de Veerdonk# got things going in the first minute with an unassisted man-down goal. Midway through the period, Hanson scored back-to-back goals including one with a man-up.

Two goals by the Dutchmen within 47 seconds of each other gave them the lead back at 4-3. Senior Charles Hovsepian (Hingham, MA/Hingham) scored an unassisted goal at the 2:56 mark and was followed at 2:09 with a goal by junior Derek Mayer (Hopewell, NJ/Princeton Day School). Union took its one goal lead into the intermission.

Union's defense was extremely tough in the second half as the Red Dragons managed only one goal early in the third period while the Dutchmen added four more for the final margin of victory. Kinnane, who finished the game with five points, scored a pair of fourth period goals while assisting on another to lead the attack.

Union goalie, Sean Aaron (Great Falls, VA/Philips Academy), recorded 23 saves for the Dutchmen in raising his record to 3-1 on the season. Oneonta goalie, Sean Reynolds (Bethpage/Bethpage), made 15 saves in his first loss of the season.

Oneonta will be home again this coming Wednesday, Mar. 17th when they face Rensselaer for a game beginning at 4:00 p.m.
