Women's Lacrosse opens 2010 Season with Pair of wins in Virginia

     The SUNY Oneonta women's lacrosse team traveled south to Virginia to open its 2010 season and came home with a pair of wins, defeating both Christopher Newport University and Virginia Wesleyan University. In both games the Red Dragons put together strong performances in the second half to capture its victories. Both games were also team efforts as every player had an opportunity to contribute to the wins.
     Last Tuesday, Feb. 23rd, Oneonta trailed 5-4 after the first half, but turned it around in the second half to defeat Christopher Newport 13-10. Six unanswered goals to open the second half including three by sophomore Brittany Passarelli (Yorktown Heights/Yorktown) gave Oneonta the lead for good.
     Passarelli finished the contest with three goals as did classmate Rebecca Monteith (West Islip/West Islip), who also added an assist for four points on the day.
     Freshman Taylor Troyano (West Islip/West Islip) earned her first points of her collegiate career with two goals and an assist.
     Sophomore goalie Annelise Muscietta (Lindenhurst/Walter O'Connell Copiague) earned the win making 10 saves.

Oneonta had an 8-7 lead at halftime, but quickly put the game away en route to a 20-11 win. Freshman Caroline Tulley (Malverne/Sacred Heart Academy) scored four of her six goals in the game to lead the second half surge. Junior Rosemarie Fazio (Mohegan Lake/Lakeland) scored a pair of goals in each half to finish with four goals in the contest.
Muscietta made nine stops to pick up her second win of the season.
