ONEONTA, N.Y.—The SUNY Oneonta men's soccer team played a well-fought game against Hobart College offensively and defensively, but so did Hobart as the two team shut each other out in a 0-0 tie.
Shortly after being subbed in the 27th minute of play freshman standout
Addison Straub (Manlius) had a chance but Hobart keeper Charlie Hale was able to come up with the diving save to keep the game at zero a piece.
In the 33rd minute of play off a corner kick Hobart's Caetano Sanchez had an open corner of the net and headed it just shy of the post to hold both squads scoreless to end the half.
The second half was much like the first half with either defense keeping the ball away from their end of the field. In the 64th minute of the game, sophomore
Eric Fortier (Pleasant Valley) had the best chance of the day when he lasered it towards the left side of the net where the ball was just shy of the net grazing the post.
Hobart had one final chance in regulation with a corner kick in the final seconds, but the Red Dragons defense was able to keep the ball away as time ended.
After a quick first overtime, junior
Tim Sagasti (Endicott) gave hope to the fans in the stands but Hale was able to make a diving stop in the second overtime and hold off the Red Dragons to end the game.
The Red Dragons will be in action next Friday, October 22nd, to kick off Hall of Fame weekend; facing Red Dragon rivals SUNY Cortland. The game starts at 3:00pm.
