Oneonta Men Deliver Strong All-Around Showing in Ithaca

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Oneonta men's track & field team turned in several strong performances Saturday at the Ithaca College In-Between Meet, highlighted by event wins, regional qualifiers, and a collection of top-three finishes at the IC Egan Family Track & Field Complex.  

Junior Kejhaune Lester (Castleton, NY/Columbia) led the Red Dragons in the sprints, placing second in the 100-meter dash finals with a time of 10.78 after posting the fastest preliminary time of 10.73. Senior Cam Spears (Bronx, NY/Monroe Woodbury) also qualified for the finals, finishing fifth in 10.98. Spears later added a fifth-place finish in the 200-meter dash, clocking 22.27, while freshman Jacob Prentice (New Berlin, NY/Unadilla Valley) took 12th in 23.02.  

In the middle-distance events, freshman Xander Kunz (Elbridge, NY/Jordan-Elbridge), placed third in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:57.35. Sophomore Jonathan McGwyne-Dantis (Blauvelt, NY/Tappan Zee) added a 15th-place finish in 2:04.06.  

The Red Dragons also saw strong showings in the 1,500-meter run, where sophomore Lucas Berg (Nyack, NY/Nyack) finished 13th in 4:11.08, and junior Noah Pickard (Batavia, NY/Batavia) crossed in 4:11.64 for 14th overall.  

Junior Jamar Matthew (Mt. Vernon, NY/Mount Vernon Stream Academy) highlighted the hurdles group with a fifth-place finish in the 110-meter hurdle finals, running a personal best of 15.56 after qualifying with a 15.66 in preliminaries. Freshman Christopher Cordero placed seventh in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 58.23.  

In the jumps, junior Isaiah Slater (Brooklyn, NY/John F. Kennedy) recorded a runner-up finish in the long jump with a mark of 6.67 meters. Junior Jayden Tsoi (North White Plains, NY/Valhalla High School) added a fourth-place effort at 6.32 meters, while senior Jackson Sergeant (Pearl River, NY/Clarkstown South) placed ninth with a jump of 5.36 meters. Sergeant also competed in the javelin, taking eighth with a throw of 39.71 meters.  

Senior Sawyer Eckberg (Maryland, NY/Laurens-Milford) earned third place in the discus with a throw of 41.87 meters and later finished ninth in the hammer throw at 47.26 meters. Junior Elijah Cruz (Pine Bush, NY/Pine Bush Central) placed fifth in the hammer throw with a toss of 49.20 meters.

Oneonta next competes at the AARTFC Championships on May 13, held at Ursinus College.
