CORTLAND, N.Y. - Senior Tariq Earl (Centereach, NY/Centereach) set a new program and meet record in the 110-meter hurdles to highlight the first day of the SUNYAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Friday. Earl ran a 14.23 as the prelims top finisher entering tomorrow's finals. Oneonta is currently seventh with eight points, while Cortland leads with 58.
In the track events, senior Cam Spears (Bronx, NY/Monroe Woodbury) reached the 400-meter finals after a time of 49.93 in the prelims. Junior Kejhaune Lester (Castleton, NY/Columbia) finished second in the 100-meter prelims at 10.82 to qualify for the finals. Freshman Chris Cordero (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) took third in the 400-meter hurdle prelims at 57.36 to make it to Saturday's finals.
Junior Isaiah Slater (Brooklyn, NY/John F. Kennedy) scored in the long jump at fourth overall with a mark of 6.81 meters.
Senior Sawyer Eckberg (Maryland, NY/Laurens-Milford) finished eighth in the hammer throw at 50.17 meters, while junior Elijah Cruz (Pine Bush, NY/Pine Bush Central) placed ninth at 50.13 meters. Senior Drew Obernesser (New City, NY/Clarkstown North) was seventh in the javelin at 41.10 meters.
