CLINTON, N.Y. — The Oneonta men's track & field team turned in a strong all-around showing Saturday at the Hamilton College Continental Invitational, highlighted by multiple top-three finishes and several personal-best caliber performances.
Leading the way on the track, Amir Mceachin (Middletown, NY/Middletown) sprinted to a third-place finish in the 200-meter dash, crossing the line in a personal best of 22.76 seconds. He also added a fifth-place finish with a personal record in the 100-meter dash (11.31), pacing a deep Oneonta sprint group that saw four Red Dragons place in the top 10. Junior Mark Cappelino (Kings Park, NY/Kings Park) placed sixth at 11.36, while sophomore Gabriel Schoonmaker (Stone Ridge, NY/Rondout Valley) ran an 11.56 for ninth.
In the 400 meters, Cameron Spears delivered one of the top performances of the day for Oneonta, finishing second overall in 50.88 seconds. The Red Dragons added depth in the event with several additional scorers, including Haywood Edwards () and Faustin O'Neill (Cooperstown, NY/Cherry Valley-Springfield).
Over in the hurdles, Tariq Earl (Centereach, NY/Centereach) posted a standout performance with a runner-up finish in the 110-meter hurdles, clocking in at 15.31 seconds. Teammates Jamar Matthew (Mt. Vernon, NY/Mount Vernon Stream Academy) (fourth) and Calvin Hitzschke (Mexico, NY/Mexico Academy & Central School) (fifth) also scored for Oneonta, giving the squad three finishes inside the top five.
The middle-distance group saw Alexander Wheeler (/Colonie Central) lead the way with a sixth-place finish in the 1500-meter run (4:15.32), while Vincent DiStefano (Nesconset, NY/Smithtown West) followed closely behind in 12th. In the 800 meters, Patrick Leahy turned in a solid effort, finishing 22nd overall. Oneonta also showed its depth in the sprint events, placing multiple athletes across the 200-meter field, including Mark Cappelino (Kings Park, NY/Kings Park) (10th) and Jamar Matthew (Mt. Vernon, NY/Mount Vernon Stream Academy) (12th).
Junior Jayden Tsoi (North White Plains, NY/Valhalla High School) placed third in the high jump (1.73 meters) and triple jump (11.93 meters), while senior Jackson Sergeant (Pearl River, NY/Clarkstown South) took eighth in the high jump at 1.68 meters. Sophomore Gabriel took second in the long jump at 6.19 meters.
Freshman Jacob Blencowe (Corning, NY/Corning Painted Post) led the Oneonta throwers with two personal best performances. He was second in the discus at 39.13 meters and finished seventh in the hammer throw at 34.84 meters. Blencowe added a second-place finish in the shot put (12.36 meters). Freshman Victor Rodriquez () earned personal bests in all three throwing events. He was third in the shot put (12.08 meters), sixth in the hammer throw (35.74 meters), and eighth in the discus (32.60 meters. Freshman Logan Mullaney () hit a personal best of 32.56 meters in the hammer throw for ninth. He placed sixth in the shot put at 11.39 meters. Junior Kyle Mullin earned top-ten performances in the discus (36.43 meters) and hammer (34.23 meters).
Oneonta next competes at the Cortland Classic on April 12.
