ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- The Oneonta women's tennis team dropped their first contest of the spring season against RIT, 6-1, on the road Sunday afternoon. The result brought the Red Dragons to a 5-8 overall record, while the Tigers improved to 3-1.
Freshman
Trinity Lyons (Mastic, N.Y./William Floyd) won Oneonta's lone match point with a victory by default on the No. 6 singles court. Freshman
Ashley Glaviano (Glen Cove, NY/Glen Cove) had a battle on the No. 5 court against Abby Finchum, but ultimately came up short, 6-4, 6-2. Sophomore
Taylor Plue (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) and freshman
Dakota Jimenez (Poughquag, NY/Arlington) dropped a pair on 6-1 sets on court two and four, respectively. Junior
Haley Peck (West Point, N.Y./James I. O'Neil) competed on the No. 1 singles court and fell to Emily Greb, 6-1, 6-0, and freshman
Kiersten Rufrano (Oneonta, NY) was tripped up on the No. 5 court by Anika Galkiewicz, 6-0, 6-2.
In doubles play, Glaviano and Lyons were bested by Galkiewicz and Finchum on court No. 3, 6-3. Haley and Jimenez were defeated by Greb and Kira Kronenberg on the No. 1 doubles court, 6-0, while Plue and Rufrano were overwhelmed by Melanie Saborio and Shayna Agarwal, 6-1.
The Red Dragons return to the courts on Saturday, February 14, for a match at Saint Michael's in Colchester, Vt. starting at 11 a.m.
